ProPhound Launch Event
Unveiling Unforgettable Moments, Talent, and Generosity
March 15, 2024
By Jabria Howington, CFO of ProPhound Kids Inc.
ProPhound Kids hosted an unforgettable evening at Wicked West on Friday, March 15th that left attendees captivated by its mission and passion to shape the lives of underserved youth in San Diego. Their launch event was filled with an array of memorable speeches, performances and activities that raised awareness about the public health issues that plague our city – youth substance abuse, homelessness and gang violence.
Guests stepped into an enchanting venue located in the heart of Barrio Logan where they were welcomed by a live jazz band by RIVA, creating a wonderful ambiance for the event. As Japanese hor d’oeuvres flowed through the room, guests were encouraged to express themselves freely on a blank canvas or buy handmade fashion pieces, jewelry and art by Francis Taylor and Lucero Sarai.
Shortly after, guests were invited to the speakeasy where an interactive sushi bar by KyotoGo Market served them fresh sushi made to order. Spoken word artist, Smeshz, shared a powerful and thought-provoking piece that resonated with the audience, stirring emotions and sparking meaningful conversations after he imparted that “appreciation shows [us] we learned” from the many hardships we face in life.
ProPhound Kids’ Chief Financial Officer, Jabria Howington, welcomed guests with a beautiful narrative about how ‘Music & Arts Saves Us’ and Chief Executive Officer, David Tillman, unveiled how the organization began and shared the organization’s goals to change trauma-informed care into human-centered programming.
The R&B performance by LBX3 brought soulful vibes and infectious energy to the stage, keeping everyone humming to his original tunes. The live art auction added an exciting element to the event, providing guests with the opportunity to bring home an authenticated, limited print by Picasso as well as showcasing the work of talented local artists.
One of the highlights of the evening was the ProPhound silent auction and trivia that tested guests’ knowledge and enthusiasm for the organization. Congratulations to the winners, who received a $300 Disney gift card or a $50 gift card to Ulta, Dave & Busters, Bath & Body Works and many others! ProPhound Kids’ first annual fundraiser achieved 89% ($8,917.96) of their fundraising goal due to the overwhelming support of its sponsors, collaborators and donors.
It is undeniable that there is a passion for music, arts, and philanthropy in San Diego. All proceeds will benefit the organization’s music and arts programming for the year ahead. If you missed the event but are interested in supporting ProPhound Kids in the future, please reach out via email at info@prophoundkids.org. Partnerships will help them continue to create positive and necessary change among youth by elevating Culture, Unity, Resilience and Empowerment.
